Last week, Tucker Carlson fumed with astonishment at a tweet —since deleted— by the U.S. Embassy Harare apparently praising now-deceased former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.
That’s certainly what’s happening with the U.S. down in Zimbabwe.
Carlson made clear his view, stating that the Ambassador “should be recalled for that,” was not the half of it. There’s far more going down than that which Tucker Carlson has identified.
For what the bureaucrats of the executive branch are attempting (whilst denying they are doing so) is to support the opposition in Zimbabwe.
The U.S. Embassy view? Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa was described as follows: “I think Nelson Chamisa is a talented, brave and charismatic leader. I encourage him to continue to work to advance his goal.”
But it’s not only the U.S. Embassy that appears to have gone weak at the knees for Zimbabwe’s opposition:
Democratic presidential hopeful and anti-gun campaigner Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) met with Chamisa and the MDC Alliance party’s Vice Chairman Tendai Biti during a meeting at Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. in October 2017—mere months before the Zimbabwean general election.
Three weeks ago —and a year after the post-election violence— the U.S. Ambassador and others from the Embassy in Harare were witnessed meeting at the family home of another vice-chairman of the MDC, miles away from Zimbabwe’s capital city Harare in the days leading up to yet more demonstrations.
The foreign minister of Zimbabwe —himself a key player in removing Robert Mugabe from office— made it clear to foreign diplomats that this meeting was considered by the Government of Zimbabwe to be an unfriendly act.
In the meantime, the U.S. Ambassador is out of the country—and Nelson Chamisa has taken his campaign to Moscow and China to enlist their support, according to Russian state news agency Sputnik.
Perhaps this is no surprise. It is, after all, just as Tucker Carlson described: “This is when you know the executive branch of government is completely out of control. That it’s being run by bureaucrats who don’t care at all who was elected, who are acting out their left-wing agendas without any restraint.”
