A Tale of Two Joes

As opposed to some of our pieces that fly into journeys of fancy, on this one we’ll focus on just the facts.

The main fact being that Joe Biden, trying to come to terms with the changing face of ideologically hard-left younger people in his party, is doing as well as did LAPD Sgt. Joe Friday in “Dragnet” when he made an effort to deal with hippies.

That is, not very well.

For those of you who don’t dig the Joe Friday reference, Biden trying to make common cause with AOC is like your centenarian great great aunt telling you she is really into “the rock and roll.”

Not that Biden is to be held completely to blame here. Trying to be seen as more relevant than you really are, and thus identifying with youth, is a malady most generations suffer from. Except mine, that is. Most of us who came of age in the late 1970s and early 1980s completely rejected the countercultural dirtbags of the mid to late 1960s. Thus, we harkened back fondly to the adult primes of our moms and dads in the early pre-hippy 60s (hence why “Animal House” was set in 1962 and why “Caddyshack” was about the decidedly preppy sport of golf) and had no wish to seem perennially adolescent. This is why the filthy flower children helped elect Carter and we went for Reagan.

On socialism, on identitarian politics, just today on the Hyde Amendment, Biden makes clucking noises to try and mollify the hard left. But you can tell his heart is really not in it. He’s a 1970s-school liberal union goon Dem who is pathetically trying to seem with it. However, as that is the political equivalent of an old guy dying his hair jet black, but then the face age doesn’t match the hair color, it only makes Biden seem kinda creepy and ideologically out of touch with the AOC wing of the party.

In fact, only yesterday de Blasio, Harris, Gillibrand, Beto, AOC, and Sanders all hit Biden on his continued support of the above-mentioned Hyde Amendment, which bans using taxpayer dollars for abortions. De Blasio went as far as saying Old Joe shouldn’t be the nominee. When he likely is, the incompetent and corrupt mayor of the big rotten apple will change his tune.

Until then the commie flower children running against him in the Dem primary, reeking of patchouli oil and sanctimony, will give poor former Veep Friday fits of frustration. Because no matter how hard he tries, he will never be hip enough for them. Hair plugs, sunglasses, confused mutterings on climate change and transsexuals of color, all for naught.

Joe is who he is and they will just have to accept that Sgt. Biden is probably going to be their nominee. Or they can throw a tantrum and refuse to support him, glowering from the sidelines as he stumbles his way through debate gaffes and about 245 in the Electoral College.

Which, for the United States of America, works out even better.
