The Leftist Political Indoctrination of the Nation’s Cops Continues

“But I doubt the aforementioned instructor, Bryant Marks, the National Center on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity founding director, will be very interested in including the viewpoints of black conservative academics such as Dr. Shelby Steele or Dr. Thomas Sowell…”

Despite the new, pro-police Republican administration, it seems the leftist, social justice onslaught against American law enforcement officers won’t end anytime soon. After years of political assaults on large police departments, apparently the left is now targeting smaller police agencies.

The Associated Press reports that in February 2018, city and police leadership in Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, will be subjecting their cops to leftist propaganda disguised as law enforcement training. The training will focus on the so-called “implicit bias” of police officers and other city employees.

This is the “training” where the left informs you that you are a racist even though you don’t know it. See, the important aspect of this warped perspective is not that you know you’re prejudiced, that doesn’t matter. It’s that they know you are biased that matters. The left is so helpful.

Do not try to tell the left you are not biased. I warn you; do not go there. If you argue that you are not racist or biased they will assure you that simply making this argument reinforces the fact that you are indeed a racist. Get it? It’s like political quicksand; the more you struggle to get out, the more you sink.

In other words, like cattle, instructors drive attendees toward a desired result and then corral them into a predetermined conclusion pen.

I’m sure the professor, Bryant T. Marks of Morehouse College, believes to the proverbial core of his being the truth of what he will teach those Vermont cops. How could he not? This leftist, social justice ideology is what his leftist professors and teachers taught him his entire academic career and is now what he teaches his students.

Now, I happen to believe what he teaches is nonsense. Well, let me amend that – mostly nonsense. He’s not teaching about the world; he’s about teaching his worldview. When my department forced me to attend similar training, I marveled at how the instructors could blend political partisanship with titbits of valid, historical information, but then contrive a biased toward the left result.

This is how it works: ostensibly well-meaning, leftist, social justices come in and present to law enforcement officers a lopsided version of past and recent racial history mixed with some legitimate history – although, you’ll come away wondering if America has progressed at all since the 1950’s.

Professor Marks has a choice in how to deliver information on this subject. However, instead of presenting a balanced perspective with true academic diversity, instructors present students with the left’s perspective only. In other words, like cattle, instructors drive attendees toward a desired result and then corral them into a predetermined conclusion pen.

This is not law enforcement training; this is blatant – explicitly biased – political indoctrination.

The reeducation detainees are exposed to the instructor’s implicit bias, which favors leftist politics. Now, the propagandists who teach these courses might present material from black leftist scholars such as Dr. Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West. But I doubt the aforementioned instructor, Bryant Marks, the National Center on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity founding director, will be very interested in including the viewpoints of black conservative academics such as Dr. Shelby Steele or Dr. Thomas Sowell (or any number of conservative/libertarian experts on race issues) on conservative diversity and equity in the training.

If there were not a legitimate “diversity” of views on the topic of bias and race relations, then why does Dr. Shelby Steele, likewise a venerable, black American scholar, hold a view diametrically opposed to that of Dr. Marks, also an intelligent, educated African-American man?

The AP story indicates the training is “part of the Burlington Police Department’s continued effort to increase cultural awareness, diversity and inclusion.” Why should the left be the sole arbiters of race relations in America’s police departments?

I understand Vermont is one of the most liberal/leftist states in the union. I grew up next door in Massachusetts and have family in Vermont. So, this indoctrination occurring there is no surprise. Their politicians and law enforcement leaders are no doubt far more left than the cops they lead, as is the case across the rest of the nation. Do you think it bothers the leaders at all that this training they are attempting to shove down their officer’s throats is so implicitly biased? The ends justify the means, right?

This is not law enforcement training; this is blatant – explicitly biased – political indoctrination. How do I know? Because I was a victim of it. I remember being forced into a city reeducation day camp and held hostage. Then “diversity” instructors crammed political garbage down our throats in an attempt to teach us that we were racist even if we didn’t know it.

What if things were reversed? Can you imagine what would happen in these same jurisdictions of a conservative administration (I know … a fantasy, but for the sake of discussion) decided to mandate, let’s say, firearms safety classes taught by the NRA (no gun control advocates’ viewpoints allowed) for all city employees? I can almost feel the concussion blast from all of the lefty heads exploding even contemplating such a thing.

If police departments are going to include this type of training, they should work to include a diverse and balanced viewpoint of the issues to properly and fully educate their police forces.
