Colin Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL, accusing owners of colluding to keep him out of a job as punishment for kneeling in protest during the National Anthem.
Kaepernick was the first player to begin protesting in this manner, which kick started a movement within the NFL. This form of protest picked up momentum again this season following President Trump’s disapproval with kneeling during the National Anthem, prompting many to boycott the NFL. This second round of kneeling protests has sparked debate and conversation over the true intentions of this season’s kneelers.
While Colin Kaepernick began protesting last year to shed light on police brutality, many NFL players only began kneeling this season, after President Trump expressed his disgust with the act–which he has strongly rebuked as being disrespectful to the flag and United States Armed Forces. Most of the current NFL kneelers took no action last year during the original kneeling protests made by Colin Kaepernick.
